Welcome!
Welcome To Rock And Roll Films
Hello aspiring filmmakers, and welcome to Rock And Roll Films' official blog. Here I hope to outline my vision for this company.
My friend Kiran, who I met at the Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV) Summer Media Intensive program, is creating something called the Youth Film Alliance (YFA) with her friends. The Alliance, once it gets off the ground, will provide fantastic resources for young directors. When Kiran explained the idea to me, I was amazed and excited. The opportunities for teenagers to learn how to make films are limited, but what is stopping us from creating our own opportunities? It's a simple idea, but it's brilliant. And at eleven last night, the brilliance of it fully hit me. So I'm setting out to craft my own, similar company, with some tweaks.
Like the YFA, Rock and Roll Films will give young filmmakers resources in the shape of articles, tutorials, etc. We will point you, through this blog (and hopefully, if all goes well, our own website later on) towards helpful sites that already exist such as StudioBinder, FilmFreeway, and others. We will be a place to come together, network, and meet people with similar goals and ideas. And if you're here to learn, there are many experienced (they have already made their own short films!) young directors and artists that can guide you.
I do want Rock and Roll Films to be more hands on in the filmmaking process, almost like a production company. With our resources and experienced volunteers, we will strive to be present during a film's creation. I want young directors to come to us with ideas for films, and we can help them take their ideas all the way to the finish line. We've all been in a position where we've had a good idea for a movie, but are too unsure to take things any further. That's what Rock and Roll Films is here for. Come to us with the idea, and we will teach you how to write a script (or, if you so desire, outsource the idea to kids who just love to write screenplays.) If you already have a script, but have never shot a film before, we're here for that too! And from there, we can teach you to edit, or outsource that process, too. We can also help with the smallest - but most important- aspects like casting, lighting, color grading... everything!
We want to create a space where young directors can make their dreams a reality. We need more directors in the world, and that starts with the youth. And if we can't trust adults to give us resources, we'll have to make our own. I hope to be meeting with you and hearing your ideas soon!
